I’ve been battling crystal meth addiction for 25 years, binging frequently and finding myself in legal trouble constantly due to the volatile nature/side effects of methamphetamine. Cravings and euphoric recall are overwhelming and every single day is a battle to stay sober. I usually last about a year or sometimes longer before it becomes too much and I ‘go back out’ with the intention to use for just a day or two to relieve the cravings and feel normal and clear. And for a day or two everything is great. Im clear, organized, focused, and feel effortlessly connected. But it gets away from me and I can’t control it for long. In sobriety I feel a mild anhedonia and don’t feel like I can connect to the world around me with the level of enthusiasm I used to experience and see others experiencing. It really sucks! I get sick of powering through it day after day for months and years just to go off again. Recently, I met with a psychiatrist for the first time in my life and explained this. I asked if I could try something a little more stable and after some research I suggested Vyvanse. He prescribed it to me for a trial period and it worked! No cravings, no euphoric recall, no obsession and compulsion to use crystal methamphetamine. I couldn’t believe it! It felt like a miracle had taken place. Unfortunately the cost was too high for insurance to cover Vyvanse and I had to stop. However, my insurance covers Focalin. And so far this too is working wonders. I take 40mg of Focalin XR in the morning and it’s perfect. I have zero desire or compulsion to use crystal methamphetamine as a result of a one time daily dose of Focalin and I feel great. Just wanted to share my experience as a former meth addict and am interested in hearing others experience with this.
